a chat channel cannot have an empty string as a name which means sending `C%` on its own in the chat window chats to a channel that cannot exist replacing this, I think it would be neat if it changed the chatting to the channel of the most recently received message

not necessarily, not everyone is in 0000 all the time also I'm not sure how the client would react to trust timestamps since they're not normal messages being explicit is fine when you have a specific action in mind having shortcuts is also important which is why we have macros, or a client at all and don't just insert raw binary into a cable adding this behaviour wouldn't take away from anywhere else, since this just repurposes broken behaviour my thinking is that this would be useful when you've just received a message and need to quickly reply without having to copy paste the channel from the message first

If you don’t want to chat to any channel, in case your cursor focus is on the chat box rather than the command line and you accidentally paste a command into chat.

that feature already exists if you look at the top right corner of your hackmud client window you'll notice 3 buttons if you click the inner most one you won't be able to accidentally paste and also somehow press enter at the same specifically in the chat box sorry to be like this but it feels like you're really grasping at straws at this point

Genuinely not. I use the feature of unsetting my chat destination all the time. I mean when in game and dont notice where cursor focus is, paste+enter quickly without noticing its in the chatbox. I wouldnt mind your proposal, as long as I can still quickly unset my chatbox. My suggestion: instead of %, using %<tab> would have the function of auto completing the channel from the most recent message. Same with +<tab> for most recent tell

I think `%5` might be what you are looking (the number 5 can be switched out for any 1 character or even multi character string assuming you aren't in that channel (I picked the number 5 because it's the same key as `%` on a us keyboard))
